Christmas is a few days away people! That means New Years is right behind it and I’ll have to face the music on another year of NOT starting the Boy At The End book that’s been taunting me for years. I’ll deal with that post when it gets here. Let’s see what else I can share before we’re all buried in wrapping paper and Amazon boxes and the Elves have abandoned the Shelves giving us a years reprieve of that nightly scramble.
HEY, STRANGE ACADEMY… I QUIT!!!
Just kidding! I’m not quitting…I just wont’ be writing it anymore.
I got fired.
Also kidding. MERRY CHRISTMAS! But seriously, I won’t be writing it anymore because Humberto Ramos and I are closing out our run on this book with issue 6 of Strange Academy Finals! We’re not quitting and we weren’t fired or canceled.
After I got the initial concept for the idea of a Marvel Magic School approved, it was time to actually build a plan for the series. As I went away and starting outlining it felt like I could tell the story I wanted to tell in 24 issues. I pitched that to editors and they gave the thumbs up! I did have one very big caveat. I wanted this book to be 100% drawn by Humberto from Issue #1, page 1 to Issue #24, page 20. No rotating with another artist. Just him and I along with Nick and the rest of our editors crushing the story for the whole run. That was a very BIG ask with today’s shipping schedules but Marvel was awesome and gave that the thumbs up as well.
And here we are, getting closer to that final issue and it’s still me, Humberto, Edgar, Clayton, and Nick. Everything went as planned. Well, almost everything. I mean, killing Doctor Strange in the middle of our run wasn’t part of the outline and maybe it caused a little bit of a HOLY FUCK moment for us, but that’s the best part of making comics. It’s a fast medium to tell stories and being nimble is part of the gig.
I’ll post a bigger, more thoughtful and mushy piece when the final issue hits shelves. For now, check out this interview at Marvel!
BASICALLY A PERBERT
Speaking of the Elf On The Shelf, here’s 2 Stupid Fresh Mess comic strips I did for the !MAGE Anthology featuring that little pest! The first came out in November and the 2nd is out now or maybe coming out next week.
LOOKS COOL
My good buddy Ryan Stegman reached and asked I wanted to do a cover for Vanish #5. I said NO. Then he cried. A lot. Then I said yes. Such is life.
Oh, and before you ask, this will be OPEN ORDER! We wanted to make sure everyone can get there hands on these little trouble makers!
WHAT’S OLD BECOMES NEW
I’ve been having Anderson Carmen go through some of my old daily sketches and slapping a fresh coat of paint on them and it’s super fun to see their revival! I’ve been posting them on my Instagram. Here’s a few I haven’t posted on there yet.

Happy Holidays to everyone!
The comic strips for Image have just been amazing. You just went next level and hit all the classic feels of the timeless Calvin and Hobbes strips. Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and an amazing start to 2023 thank you for all the amazing art this year.
Aww, sad news that you and Humberto are finishing Strange Academy. But awesome that you guys hit exactly the length of the series you wanted and got to play it all out
