Before I ramble on and get all up in my feelings about Daily Sketches, I wanted to tell you about a new addition we’ve made to The Skottie Shop!
We’d like to introduce a selection of our DIGITAL BOOKS! We’re kicking things off with several sold-out and out of print sketchbooks. Daily Grind Vol. 1 has been sold out but with the release of Vol. 3 and 4 we thought some you would like to at lease see what Vol. 1 had inside. We’d added Vol. 2 as well becuase that’s pretty close to sold out as well.
We also dug in my archives to bring VERY out of print sketchbooks Stuff, Junk One and Things available! Now you’ll get to take a look at my old work and first runs at self publishing in digital form.
Daily Sketches…I Can’t Quit You
As most of you know, 2024 saw a massive drop off in my Daily Sketches. I did fewer than I have since I started doing them regularly in 2011. Partly because the number of covers I had on my table was higher than it had ever been. I mean, the Big Marvel cover collection couldn’ve easily taken over the calendar for a year. But those were added to my normal drawing schedule along side writing several comic series, conventions, signings, building Stupid Fresh Mess stronger along side my crew, and trying to make sure my kids don’t choose Cats In The Cradle as their favorite song. haha.
The year ended with a fair amount of big ticket items on the personal side of life and I just couldn’t find that brain space to set aside for the freestyle fun I need to have on Daily Sketches. Like I said in a previous newsletter, I wasn’t crushing on them at the time. But you know what they say…
Distance makes the heart grow fonder.
We just released Daily Grind Vol. 3 and 4 and seeing these books got me excited again. Flipping through them reminded me how much I’d stretch myself to find new ways to draw things. It’s like how your body feels when you stop working out or the weather takes your daily walks away longer than you’d like. Having a full year pass by with barely any Daily Sketches feels strange and I’m ready to try and get back into it.
Now, I’m not making any promises on frequency (funny because they’re called DAILY haha) or if I’ll be able to pull this off at all. I can say I’m gonna try and hopefully we all have some fun along the way.
That being said, this is where I reach out to you to throw some suggestions out there. If you have some ideas post them in comments below. It’s no guarantee that I’ll pick yours so don’t be disappointed if you don’t see your subject pop up. Also, no “baby version of…” suggestions. I do that for work already. This is meant to break outside of the regular stuff I draw.
Ok, let’s see what inspiration you give me to dive back into my Daily Sketches.
We have a bunch of cool stuff over at THE SKOTTIE SHOP so swing over and get in on the fun! I Hate Fairyland Book 3 Deluxe Hardcover, Daily Grinds, and a HUGE original art drop in a week!
