I was plotting IHF #5 a few months ago and listening to a Fantasy Rock Playlist. A song came on that felt like such great montage song and it gave me an idea on how to wrap up the first arc of the I Hate Fairyland relaunch.
Before I filled out any more index cards in my plot, I sent a text to my good friend George Hage and asked if he and his band JACK THE RADIO would be interested in writing a custom song for the issue. He checked with his crew and they were in! Once I was sure I had a song in place, I knew how to plot the issue and it was so fun to craft.
Jack The Radio started to work on a scratch track just to give me a sound to think about while i finished the script and Brett started turning in pages. I sent the art over to the band and they began writing lyrics and recording and eventually there was a song that went a long white issue!
I figured this was either the best idea I’ve ever had…or it was going to be the worst. hahaha. But you know what? THIS IS INDIE COMICS! I love just having fun and trying things because, you know what, I can! And this was definitely a weird idea for the final issue of an arc. And that made me love it even more.
I Hate Fairyland #5 (written by me with art by Brett Bean) will be in stores and wherever physical and digital comics are sold on Wednesday 3/15. Get your copy, scan the QR code and enjoy the issue along with the song “This World” by Jack The Radio, written and recorded to accompany this comic. Here’s peek in studio as the song was being recorded.

Hey Mr. Fantasy, Play Us A Tune!
This just just pure awesome.
What?! That's such an absolutely sick idea! And to be able to just reach out to friends and collab like that? That's awesome! The recent Dune release did the same thing with an accompany soundtrack of music with the art book. And it was such a fun and different way to experience it!
Seriously can't wait to pick up the issue even more now! It's been such a blast getting back into the world of IHF and I can't wait to see where the first arc ends up.
