I launched I HATE FAIRYLAND 10 years go! That’s just crazy to me. But my most exciting moment with the book came 7 years ago when the first Deluxe Hardcover was released. While I loved the single issues and was thrilled to have my 4 volumes collecting those, it was the Hardcover that I always had in my mind from initial creation of the book. When I worked out the idea for IHF my first thought was “I can’t wait to have enough material to make a big fat hardcover and make it look like an old fairytale book complete with fancy gold leaf details framing the whole thing!” Before I even wrote or drew a single issue. Even before I had finalized Gert’s design I had the hardcover in my mind. And after few years of grinding, that dream became reality and that that magical pink edition of I Hate Fairyland was in my hands and then yours!
A few years later, Book 2 came out and I was even more over the moon. I was taking up legit space on a bookshelf with my first creator owned book. I have 21 issues, 4 trades and now 2 hardcovers! You would’ve thought I was prolific as Stephen King with how happy looking at that collection of books made me.
Then I paused the book. I was tired. for 15 issues I wrote, illustrated, edited and managed the book on my own. That was while writing a few Marvel titles and doing at least 2 covers a week. I was EXHAUSTED so I went off and did the writer only thing for much longer that I thought I would. The break was nice but man, I missed Gert and her crew.
You know how that turned out. In 2022 our girl and I HATE FAIRYLAND relaunched with the help of the amazing cartoonist Brett Bean and a lot of other amazing creators on the anthology series UNTOLD TALES OF I HATE FAIRYLAND!
My mind is blown that we’re coming up on issue #20 already! That will be 4 more collections and, my favorite part… MORE DELUXE HARDCOVERS!!! Yup! You got the PINK Book One, GREEN Book Two, and now the beautifully YELLOW Book Three!
Today is the FOC (Final Order Cutoff) for the new hardcover collection. That means you can still go to your local comic shop, bookstore or online retailer and pre-order it to guarantee you get a copy!
You can also grab a signed copy right from us at The Skottie Shop!
That's so fun that you had the idea for the hardcover even beforw putting pencil/pen to paper! These hardcovers are gorgeous and some of my favorite in my collection! They're so colorful and fun and fit the vibe/asthetic of the book so well. Plus, their sides line up perfectly and it's looking like 3 will fit in just as well! Which is quite impressive given the time inbetween the books! Most TPB or HC just can't quite align the sides like I hope they would.
Here's to 10 more years and more hardcovers to come Skottie!
Will there be a black cover version available for this volume? I believe it was a retailer exclusive for the first two, but I don’t recall which one.
