What’s the best prank you ever pulled off (or had pulled on you)?

The Stolen Dream of the Winning Scratch off. 

In our early 20’s, My wife Casey and I were back in central Illinois visiting my family for the holidays. My little brother was a huge scratch-off lottery ticket guy and he loved giving them out as gifts. When we were out shopping, we found some fake scratch-offs at Spencer’s and we thought it would be funny to add that into a stack of real ones for Casey’s gift. 

When the time came for her to open her gift, she laughed that Landon would get her scratch-offs and decided to start scratching them off right then. She cleared each card and as expected they are were all losers. Then the fake one was up, but obviously she had no idea.

All she needed to do was get 3 of any amount and it’s a winner!

She dove in and started scratching. First up was $10,000 which doesn’t phase her as she knows there’s no chance at this. Then came another $10,000. Her eyes got a little bigger and of course we egged her on, telling her there’s a real shot here. She keeps scratches and finally hits a third $10,000 square. 

“Holy shit, Casey. You fucking won!” Her eyes go wide and she can’t believe what she’s seeing. Of course, we’re ramping up the excitement by celebrating her win and telling her she’s rich! Well, when you’re 24, that about of money makes you feel like Elon Musk. 

She’s so excited at being $10,000 richer, she grabbed the phone to call her parents. She was so pumped she couldn’t remember their number. Hahaha. 

We told her to hang up and we’ll figure out how to redeem this money. Landon explained that when he wins, he takes the ticket back to the gas station for the reward. “Flip it over, they usually tell you on the back”, he says. She flips it and begins to read.

“In the case of receiving a winning ticket, you may redeem your prize by returning to the North Pole where Santa Clause will exchange it for….”

“YOU MOTHER FUCKERS!!!” is what she yells before she lets out a primal scream and runs upstairs and away from us. We are all now on the floor laughing so hard it hurts, and my brother Landon gasping for air and he laughs inaudibly. 

Casey’s life had changed for a few brief moments and then was ripped away by a room full of pranksters. And FUCK… it was satisfying. 

Watch out for those scratch offs.
