THE PERSONAL COLLECTION OF SKOTTIE YOUNG!

Skottie and I have been working together a little over five years now. In that time my office has “inherited” quite the collection of books from Skottie. I never knew WHAT to do with these unique, rarer, sometimes beat up, sometimes perfect comics. These books come to me in a variety of ways. Some are comps sent to us from publishers. Some are the test copies that I make Skottie sign in a rainbow of paint markers looking for the PERFECT match (his least favorite thing I do). Some are books that Skottie used as reference and had sitting on his desk (coffee definitely spilled on it). Some have a remark that was used as an example. If you follow along with my Instagram stories on @stupidfreshmess you know that Skottie recently emptied out an old storage unit near his hometown… it was a treasure chest.

Last fall I got to go with Skottie down to Sarasota for his signing at CGC. To see this place with my own eyes and witness the breadth and full scale of the operation that is CGC was completely awesome and inspiring. The crew and I brainstormed while Skottie signed and sketched on all your beautiful bookS. Long story short, The Personal Collection of Skottie Young was born! Skottie created a brand new design for our logo label which will only be used on THIS collection.

Most of these books are going to be the ONLY one available. Sometimes there will be a few available for the same cover. Periodically I will have drops in The Skottie Shop which I will announce here and on our Instagram- like how we do Original Art drops. The price points of these will vary widely but I think they’ll be something for every type of collector here.

The most fun part of these books is their story. If I know the backstory to a book- I will give it in the listing on the shop! Take for example The Amazing Spider-Man #26 1:200 ratio variant in the upper lefthand below. Why is this book graded an 8.0? I’ll tell you. Our very first WhatNot show was summer of 2023. We knew exactly what we were doing (we did not). I had asked Skottie to do a couple remarks live and he had so much fun with it. We were cracking ourselves up when he did this Spider-man riding on the back of Spider-man. It ended up being one of the highest selling items of the night! Fun was being had and at some point wine was spilled. We didn’t even notice because of the coloring of the book until it was time to pack it up. Needless to say Skottie had to redo it. The grader’s notes say that there is a water spill… spoiler, it’s red wine.

The backstory notes on The Edge of Spiderverse #1… this was a remark that didn’t go in the intended direction so Skottie drew a dead face on it. I thought it was hysterical so I kept it for him. The Haunted Mansion is one of if not THE favorite Disney ride of Skottie’s. This copy was found in a box unearthed from his stuff.

This was our test copy of Ain’t No Grave for signatures. The CGC even notes on the label “SIGNED EIGHT TIMES BY SKOTTIE YOUNG ON 7/10/24.
