What’s up, everyone! Happy Friday! I hope you all had a great post-Labor Day week. I got much more done than I anticipated, but still not as much as I needed to. Let’s face it, that’s nothing new and I’m sure we’re all in that boat a lot of the time. So, I’ll stop whining and jump into some fun stuff.
JUST A COUPLE Q’s FOR A’s
I’m going to start recording some bitesize content for everyone and posting them on my Instagram Reels and TikTok. I have some ideas ready but I’d love to source you all on what you’d like to know and what you’d like put in some quick hit Q & A’s.
Reply in the comments with your questions and we’ll add them to the list.
STUPID FRESH INSTAMESS
Here are some of the images I’ve posed over on My Instagram this week. I’ve not had a lot time for Daily Sketches lately so I’ve been digging in the vault for things to share with you all over there. I promise, I’m trying to get back to dailies. I really miss drawing them.
The Neverending Story is one of my favorite books and movies of all time. A few years ago I did some sketches of the best scenes and characters from it.
McMEDIA DEPARTMENT
We’re really excited to have Casey McCauley onboard to handle the photography and video side of the operations here at Stupid Fresh Mess. She’s been helping out with my Reels/TikToks and YouTube videos here and there and now will be joining us to do all of our product photography, documentaries, tutorials, and promo videos. We’re launching a new product very soon and her work on the media for it is sooooooo fucking cool. We can’t wait to share it with you. Look out for the teaser next week.
Here’s Case working on the promo for our store exclusive for Marvel’s ALIEN #1. If you haven’t grabbed yours yet, go visit The Skottie Shop and get yours NOW!
SAM AND ME
Full disclosure, I don’t know Sam Kieth personally. He doesn't know me. I just love his work and have for a very long time. I fell in love with The Maxx in the early 90’s, and without knowing at the time, his work would imprint on me for the rest of my life. The Maxx came to an end and I lost touch with Sam’s work. Many, many years later when I was in the middle of my career, I rediscovered The Maxx via the iPad and it hit me like a ton of bricks. So many weird quirks in my work came from the inspiration I got from him and his art. He has ended up being one of my biggest influences even though I didn’t recognize it at the time. It’s like it creeped inside my brain and hid there for years, letting itself out in various blades of grass, torn clothing and all kinds of things I draw. If you’re familiar with Sam's work, that’s exactly how it should come to stick with you.
Here are a few of the prized books of my collection. I’m sure they’re out of print and might be hard to find, but worth it if you’re willing to go on the hunt for them. Sam also maintains a BLOG and posts on the regular!
Come by my online store and grab signed comics, graphic novels, exclusive covers, prints, and much more!
Well, that’s about it for this now. Have a great weekend everyone!
How did I never make this correlation!? I love both of your work immensely. Best of the best.
Pretty much started crying when I saw the Artax sketch. Great stuff, Skottie. All the Neverending Story sketches are spot on.
