A little over 5 years ago, I ended my first run on I Hate Fairyland. I wrote and drew 21 issues of that series while maintaining a few covers a week, writing Deadpool and launching 2 other Image series I was co-creating and writing. Oh, and parenting and moving my family to a new state. Needles to say, i was tired and needed a break.
I paused I Hate Fairyland with the goal of writing a few comics before I jumped back into drawing a series. I ended up falling in love with the writing process and have since written several titles both at Marvel and with my partners on creator owned books at Image. Drawing comics got put on the shelf for awhile. Much longer than I expected.
Something else was effected by my new city, job focus, parenting, and all the other things that come along with the world of adulting. Reading. I was so focused on creating and writing new books, I completely fell off READING new books. I used to listen to audiobooks while I drew pages everyday. But now that I’m only at the table for a few hours here and there throughout the week, I can’t really get audiobook time in. By the time I’d get home, get kids fed, hang with family and friends, and get kids in bed, my bandwidth was gone and months had gone by without realizing I hadn't read a single comic, book, or ANYTHING.
So, yeah. I miss reading.
The upside is, I have a lot of stuff to catch up on! That brings me to the point of this newsletter and where you come in. I’d love some reading recommendations! Mostly looking for some comics and graphic novels from the last 5 years that I need to check out. Jump in the comments and let me know what I should be reading.
I look forward to seeing what you all suggest!
