Wholly Holy!!! What a great ending to a great run!! I'm 42 but only just picked up Comics since my teens and 20+ years immersed in the Seattle Music Scene as a fan & promoter/producer - quarantine really slowed my roll and Wednesdays at Phoenix Comics & Games got me off my azz and I've collected over 10K mostly-new books since I started, along with MARVEL UNLIMITED - my townhouse is running outta space and I'm very behind in my reading - too much good stuff!
Kelly's list is pretty damn good. I am going to add some of her titles and a couple of fantastic creator-owned and one DC book
CAPTAIN MARVEL (Thompson/Carnero/Garbett/Davila) - Kelly's entire Cap run is amazing, the definite run on the character for me.
BLACK WIDOW (Thompson/Casagrande) - This won an Eisner for a very good reason. Another series that epitomizes the character perfectly. Gorgeous Adam Hughes covers also.
The Cull (Thompson/De Iulis) - Incredible detail visually in storytelling & subtle narrative characterization make this a MUST-READ. Only one issue out so far, but 10/10 for how to hook readers in a first issue.
Spider Woman (Pacheco/Perez) - Great balance of action & humor. Definitive run for Jess (The Mess) Drew
No/One (Higgins/Buccellato/Borges) - Topical, nuance crime noir that is super immersive and has an in-continuity accompanying podcast that adds tremendously to the experience. Rachel Leigh-Cook and Patton Oswalt are the podcast hosts as characters from the book.
W0rldTr33 (Tynion/Blacno) - Tynion at the height of his powers mixing enigmatic characters with horror & topical technology. Blaco's art is both terrifying & sublime in its emotionality
The Vigil - (Ram V/Sharma) - The best title DC is putting out. Based in India with it's inherent dram and dichotomous nature of being a technological leader while still having widespread poverty. Mysterious characters, great art and tightly paced.
Haha. I started writing it out (I track a lot of this stuff for my own nonsense purposes) and midway through I was like "is this too much?" and then I was like "NO! Skottie is one of the only people to read and love Heart In A Box...I know what he wants!" lol
The books I loved the most to read in recent times were: Ballad for Sophie by Filipe Melo and Juan Cavia; It's lonely at the center of the earth by Zoe Thorogood; Dynamite Diva by Jasper Jubenvill; Glorious Summers by Jordi Lafebre
I highly recommend Si Spurrier and Matias Bergara's Coda. It's a fantastic read.
Gene Luen Yang's Monkey Prince over at DC was a fun fun read.
Home Sick Pilots by Dan Watters and Casper Wijngaard was a brilliant read. And it's visually stunning,
Dan Watter's also did Arkham City Order of the World and the Sword of Azrael book which are fantastic reads.
Kurt Buseik and Carlos Pacheco brought back their Arrowsmith in Behind Enemy Lines. The original run is reprinted as So Smart in their Fine Uniforms. This is sadly one of Carlos Pacheco's final works before he passed. But it is so beautiful.
Human Target by Tom King and Greg Smallwood (DC Comics): For the lover of 50s/60s illustration/design
Grendel, Kentucky by Jeff McComsey and Tommy Lee Edwards (AWA Studios): A retelling of Beowulf set in 1971 Kentucky, where tributes to a monster help keep the local weed crops prosperous
Shit yeah man. My absolute fave is Saga Brian K Vaughn and art by Fiona Staples. It is 100% not kid appropriate. Recent reads that I have loved are Do a Power Bomb and Murder Falcon by Daniel Warren Johnson. Good art, great story, and way more out of the story than you'd expect from titles about wrestling and a rock band.
Love Everlasting, Traveling to Mars, Public Domain, Damn Them All, Con & On, and all the X-books are some of my favorite current runs - also check out Bad Idea Comics, especially Orc Island, Burning Man & They're All Terrible! Top notch!!
Daredevil's pretty cool
Your Howard the Duck is my favorite. Too old for the time frame requested though. Keep up the great work.

Something is killing the children and the entire Slaughterverse needs to be read
Also Eight Billion Genies
already on that and loving it.
Tynion has been puuting out the bangers.
You must read the Department of Truth. Nothing like the conspiracy rabbit hole for great content.
Okay. Here's a bunch I've loved over the last few years:
KROMA (Lorenzo De Felici) -- Perfect.
HUMAN TARGET (King/Smallwood) - Gorgeous mid-centry art & a grown up superhero story.
KEEPING TWO (Crane) - Brilliant

WHAT'S THE FURTHEST PLACE FROM HERE (Rosenberg/Boss) - so good, going strong
NICE HOUSE ON THE LAKE (Tynion/Martinez/Bellaire) - dark and interesting, great hook
SIKTC (Tynion/Dell'Edera/Muerto) - everyone will recommend this...they're right!
CATCH & RELEASE (Brisson/Estherren) - great crime stuff, gorgeous low key B&W art
LONELINESS OF THE LONG DISTANCE CARTOONIST (Tomine) - beautiful/hilarious autobio
MAGGY GARRISON (Trondheim) -- fans of slice of life + PI stuff will be thrilled. I truly loved this.
SINS OF THE SALTON SEA (Brisson/Smith) - Cool crime stuff with creepy cult stuff
DARK KNIGHTS OF STEEL (Taylor/Putri) - super fun alt reality superhero stuff
SPIRIT WORLD (Wong/Haining) - really exciting new character/title from DC
VOID RIVALS (Kirkman/De Felici) - an excellent start to a new world
THE FORGED (Rucka/Trautmann/Henderson) -- terrific new space-focused military story.
BRIAR (Cantwell/Garcia) - stunning visuals, cool subversive fairy tale stuff
THE NIGHT EATERS (Liu/Takeda) - interesting/cool/visually exciting. I rec Monstress over this if you have to choose, but this is worthy too.
SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW (King/Evely) - excellent cosmic superhero stuffI
IT'S LONELY AT THE CENTRE OF THE EARTH (Thorogood) -- yup. it's very good.
DUCKS (Beaton) - yup.
All KSD's cool WONDER WOMAN stuff (& OF COURSE her BITCH PLANET if you're behind there)
Zdarsky's PUBLIC DOMAIN, NEWBURN, and of course those little known BATMAN and DAREDEVIL books. ;D
Kelly, you're fucking awesome. Thank you for this huge list. Truly!!!

I also love that you know my tastes! You know how much I love your work!
Haha. I started writing it out (I track a lot of this stuff for my own nonsense purposes) and midway through I was like "is this too much?" and then I was like "NO! Skottie is one of the only people to read and love Heart In A Box...I know what he wants!" lol
Haha. Yup. You know me well and you nailed it! I ordered several of your recco’s!!!
Oh good! Let me know if you find something you love!
(and I hope it's Kroma. I put it at the top for a reason ;D)
Seconding all of this. Kelly hit everything I’ve loved this year. My two add-ons though would be Do a Powerbomb by DWJ and Above Snakes
Highly recommend Eight Billion Genies
Check out "Dark Ride."
Dark Ride is one of the few current pulls I have that makes me go “ooooo” every time it shows up in my box
These aren't listed in a rated order, just random.
1. Sacrificers is VERY GOOD (only one issue has been released & it made me tear up, never had that happen before when reading a comic)
2. Animal Castle (volume 1 & the current vol.2) is FANTASTIC! (your kids would love it)
3. The Nice House On The Lake (vol.1)
4. S.I.K.T.C (lot's to read) but it's FANTASTIC!! Another top favorite of mine. Anything by Tynion for indie comics!
Had Sacrificers put in my pull box at my LCS as a suggestion and it looked interesting so I picked it up today! Haven't read it yet!
I need to try Animal Castle.

Beta Ray Bill by Daniel Warren Johnson is all the right kind of insane fun.
Do a Powerbomb! by DWJ is also great!
