Always love getting a behind the scenes look at your process and your opinions on it! And I appreciate the no stupid questions part as asking questions is how we learn. I also totally feel the trying to schedule creativity part out haha. It's a nice idea just not how it works like you said lol.
Also, I've always loved your deck and backyard! Such a pretty area to be able to just chill in. Would love to put a hammock out there myself!
Sounds very similar to my morning here in NW Arkansas...except with dogs. And my butt is damp from the wood porch swing that never seems quite dry regardless of the prevailing weather. I tip my mug to slow, warm mornings and the commitment required to pursue serious boredom - huzzah!
Dude, even this little blurb from you helps those of us going thru depression at times, know we can find ways to live this crazy life... Appreciate you always!
Very important to keep this idea alive, especially in a time where every single thing is designed to distract you for as long as possible. Boredom is so important for creative thought, when you're just doing nothing and your brain, having no real stimulation, starts filling in the blanks on its own. That's when you start to notice things and have interesting thoughts, like the "shower thoughts" that people often talk about.
A while ago, I was in my kitchen boiling water when I saw a particularly funny-looking shadow on the wall, that I then photographed and turned into a simple robot design. It's nothing special and didn't change my life or anything, but I wouldn't have seen it if I hadn't allowed myself to just stand there and be bored. Letting your brain calm down and just do nothing is so much more important than people give it credit for. Thanks for sharing.
This is the stuff transcendent experiences are made of, thanks for the reminder. My best ideas find me while I’m driving because I can’t look at my stupid phone
I had been scraping an hour or so every morning (as I work a 9-5) to work on my creative projects. Yesterday was a bad day, so when I woke up today I knew I had to take an opportunity to get my work done, but I was devastated. So I did the best thing I could do, I got bored. Yeah just like you said, sitting there doing nothing since 5am. All the noise and sourness starts to fade away until the mind just shakes it off and starts to get back to you. To your own self. 10 hours later. I already made lunch, got some cheetos with popcorn and I just typed down 5 new scenes that I really loved because it came from deep inside. Here we go!
Very enlightening! Thanks for sharing your home space. I run a side biz designing funny shirts and stickers and my ideas usually come from left field when I’m doing something else. I keep a Notes app file with ideas to jot down so I don’t forget them after the inspiration hits. I reject ideas if they seem lame after a few days

Love this! Thank you for sharing.
This is a great post about boredom with all the distractions that we have these days, it’s refreshing that someone is intentionally being bored!
Yea, I agree. I really dug this article. Thanks.
This is great insight, but most of all, I just want to say I love that mug.
