*** UPDATE 12/14: WE ARE NOW FULL. THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR A GREAT RESPONSE TO OUR FIRST SKOTTIE NON-CON! ***
As life gets crazier and crazier around here, we’ve had to start doing an audit of that precious commodity we just can’t seem to get enough of.
Time.
There’s just never enough of it. We had a meeting here at Stupid Fresh Mess recently and the only goal was to create a mission statement. Something that we can use to guide us and keep us on track with the things we want to be doing so that we’re using our time in not just the most productive ways, but the most fulfilling. Conventions are one of the things affected by that mission statement.
We love going to conventions. We love meeting you all and signing all the books and statues and arms and babies and whatever else my sharpie is asked to scribble on. Unfortunately, they eat up a ton of time and resources. The cons are three days, but we’re gone 5-6. Then there’s so much more me and team do before and after that I won’t bore you with here. But all said a done, a 3 day convention east ups weeks here at the studio between prep and recovery. Yeah, I said recovery. We’re not spring chickens over here. As we become more judicious with our travel schedule, we wanted to figure out a way to still provide signings for everyone. I mean, my cover schedule is not slowing down and you all are awesome to keep stacking up your collections and wanting them signed.
We tossed out an idea. If we can’t go to them, maybe some of them can come to us. And so THE SKOTTIE NON-CON was born. We’ve met so many shops and facilitators over the years that come to various conventions with long box after long box and thought maybe they’d just come to KC to do the same thing! No need for a big booth, or a 3 day badge, or the price hike on hotels, etc. We get to sign a bunch of books for you guys but knock it out in a few days instead of a few weeks it takes away from us. At the end of the day, that leaves me way more time to make more stuff for you all. See how that works? It’s a full blown Jerry McGuire moment. It’s you helping us help you! Hahaha. (ok, I just like referencing that movie. Deal with it.)
So there. That’s my rambling about what how THE SKOTTIE NON-CON came to be. Don’t misunderstand though. We will still be hitting the road for conventions and coming out to see you through the year. Just not to as many as I used to be able to attend. I’ll let Megan jump in and tell you WHAT it is and how to be part of it. I’ll be there with Sharpies ready to scibble on all your stuff!
GOING TO KANSAS CITY.

I'm excited that y'all are excited for this! Even just attending the cons as a non-artist is exhausting so I can only image what it's like with a whole booth! I'm glad to hear you aren't entirely done with cons though and I'm hoping this means this will help provide the multi-longbox people with the sigs they want. As well as gives people with only a few items more of your time at the cons!
Neat idea. Curious to see how it evolves after a few experiences/experimental runs. Hopefully it proves to be a worthwhile endeavor.
